Inside Atom Energy: A Conversation with Paul Little

At Atom Energy, portable power is built around real life. Designed specifically for the UK market, Atom’s power stations are used everywhere from camper vans and fishing banks to rural homes and off-grid work sites. We sat down with Paul Little, Business Development Manager at Atom Energy, to talk about how the brand is shaping portable power for the UK, the real-world stories behind the products, and why this next phase of growth is the most exciting yet.

How would you explain Atom Energy to someone who’s never really thought about energy tech before?

I’d describe Atom as a UK brand focused on perfecting portable power for the British market. A lot of products are designed with the US or Canadian market in mind, but we wanted something that actually fits how people live here. That means compact designs that fit into cupboards, car boots, vans, practical, good-looking products that just work. We also try to follow what I think of as the British way: under-promise and over-achieve. And that really shows in how customers respond to our products.

What kind of feedback do you hear most from customers?

Honestly, a lot of excitement. People come back to us genuinely elated with how well their unit performs. I’ve had people almost bouncing over to tell me how many kettles they’ve boiled at a campsite or how they powered a whole group’s washing-up station.

Atom products are used in a lot of different ways, how do you support such a varied customer base?

That’s where customer service and technical support become really important for us. We don’t just sell someone a unit and wish them luck. Most customers speak to us before they buy, whether that’s through our phone line, web chat or technical team - so they know exactly what they’re getting and what to expect. We guide them to the right unit for their needs, and we stay involved after purchase too.

For some people, especially retired couples converting vans, the tech can feel overwhelming. We walk them through it step by step and make sure they feel confident using it.

 

Are there particular sectors where you’re seeing the most growth right now?

Yes, we’re well established in van builds and camper conversions now, but the two sectors we’re most excited about at the moment are fishing and e-bikes. The fishing sector, especially carp angling, has traditionally relied on small battery packs that take ages to charge and have limited functionality. Our 600 unit in particular has opened things up, it’s compact, robust, and allows anglers to run heating, lighting, bait boats, tablets, phones and more.

Why do you think fishing has become such a big opportunity for Atom?

Because until now, there really wasn’t a battery built specifically for that market. Once anglers started using our products, the feedback was incredibly positive, especially around performance in cold temperatures. We’ve had people running our lithium batteries in minus-five conditions with no issues. And fishing is a sport people can do from childhood right through to old age, so it’s a huge, long-term market for us.

What does the future look like for Atom Energy?

We are now in a strong position to expand confidently into new sectors. Alongside this, we are developing new products that we’re genuinely excited about, with advances in areas such as size, weight, affordability, and IP rating.

Importantly, our current range remains highly relevant and continues to perform exceptionally well, offering proven capability and excellent value across its existing markets.

It sounds like Atom is entering a new phase, does it feel that way internally?

Absolutely. We’ve grown organically, built trust, and now it feels like the foundations are finally in place. From here, it’s about attacking the market with more energy and momentum. We’re ready to burst through the ceiling.
